How to train & recruit ex-military personnel

The third event from Building People in the 'Sharing Sixty' series: Sixty minutes of online equity, diversity and inclusion best practice for the built environment, shared by the Building People network, with a specific focus on engaging with people from diverse and under-represented audiences. Hear from three organisations that provide construction and built environment careers support to Service leavers and ex-military personnel: BuildForce, Building Heroes and CareerForces.

Angela Forbes (BuildForce), Karen Jefford (Building Heroes) and Andy Howe (CareerForces) will talk about the services on offer from each of their organisations (covering training, mentoring, insight days and recruitment), followed by an opportunity to ask questions and gain both knowledge and practical actions to support your business to benefit from engaging with ex-military personnel.

The session will:

  • Highlight the benefits of hiring and investing in ex-military talent, with a particular focus on transferable skills.
  • Demonstrate pathways for Service leavers into construction trade training and into professional careers.
  • Help employers better understand the support available to new ex-military recruits through mentoring.
  • Provide employers with clear actions they can take to engage with Service leavers and veterans seeking construction and built environment careers.

BuildForce is a nationwide construction industry programme that supports the service leaver and veteran community transition into trade and professional careers within industry, with a compliment of services focused on pre-employment, employment, education and mental health.

Building Heroes is dedicated to service leavers, veterans, reservists and military families, providing training and employment support into a new career in construction by equipping individuals with a broad range of trade skills and then connecting them with a network of employers.

CareerForces is a Social Enterprise that help UK service personnel, reservists, veterans and their families into new careers by helping UK business to secure exceptional, proven personnel in a socially responsible way.

This event is free to Building People supporters and members of the Building People network. We charge a low fee for non-members but are happy to waive this or offer a discount if needed.
